Old Brethren Cemetery
Directions: Heading toward Dover on Route 74 North, turn right at the traffic light in the square. You are now on East Canal Road. Continue till you come to the ‘Y’ in the road. Keep to the right of the road past a few houses. Look left and you will see the cemetery surrounded by a fence located behind a house.
As you enter through the gate for the cemetery the headstones are read from left to right. They have been read to the best of our ability as all records for the church were destroyed in a fire. The original EUB church, located in the Borough on North Main Street, moved all church documents to their new church on Emig Mill Road, across from Leib Elementary School. In 1988, an arsonist set fire to the newly built church, which burned to the ground.
To review more on the church, refer to Landmarks of Dover Section - History of Otterbein EUB Church on the website.
The following pages show a picture of the headstones with the inscriptions.
We believe that between the headstones of Peter Rauhouser and Our Mother Sarah Freysinger was probably Sarah Frysinger’s husband John Frysinger.
It is also believed that Agnes (first row) and Catharine (3rd row 3rd headstone) were sisters and they died from the small pox epidemic.
